TreeTop Tornado Comparisons offer two primary view modes which are used to emphasize different aspects of the comparison.
Toggle between the view modes by choosing one of the Chart Types on the Tornado Comparison ribbon tab.
Color by Variable
In this view mode, variables are grouped by color (such as Resource Size in blue and Reserves per Well in red above).
Use this view mode to find or emphasize the differences in individual variables between strategies.
The color that is defined in the primary Tornado is used for each variable.
Right-click on the solidly filled bar (primary bar) of a variable group to change the color of that variable. Note that this changes the color of the variable in the underlying tornado.
In addition to changing the variable's color, you can also navigate directly to the underlying Tornado Diagram (Go to Standalone) and Hide the Bar completly.
To make a previously hidden variable re-appear in the Tornado and Tornado Comparison, go to the underlying Tornado and make it visible there.
Color by Strategy
Often it is desirable to compare strategies not on a variable by variable level, but more by the overall impact a different strategy has.
The Color by Strategy view mode emphasizes the overall shape of a strategy at the cost of individual variables being deemphasized.
You can change the color in which a strategy is displayed by using the color drop down in the bottom right of each mini tornado in the sidebar.
Which view mode to use?
A complete analysis of a project usually encompasses both passes - looking at the overall shape of each strategy in comparison to the other strategies, as well as comparing individual common variables.
The Report screen of the Tornado Comparison will help you by asking common questions that typically lead to insights that will allow you to complete the analysis.
